Come Unto Christ

The Book of Mormon says we must “come unto Christ and be perfected in him.” Notice that it does not say “be perfect and then come unto Christ.” We are trying to become better people, but it is the Savior who perfects us. We are to rely on Him, not our own works for exaltation. Our good works show our love for him and his sacrifice, but it is His atonement which saves us.

My friends, for the mercy of Christ to be “mercy” it has to be undeserved. The moment you earn mercy, it is no longer mercy because you deserve it. Getting what you deserve is called justice. Mercy by definition is a blessing you don’t deserve. The Savior offers us mercy through His atonement. He alone saves us. Do I still believe in good works? Yes. However, my good works don’t save me, my good works show my love and appreciation for Him that saved me. To try to earn exaltation is to put your trust in the arm of the flesh. Ask Him and allow Him to transform you. He’ll sanctify your heart. He’ll make much more out of your life than you ever thought possible.
