The more I teach about marriages and other relationships, the more I am assured that everyone has a past. We have all made embarrassing mistakes, we all have difficult experiences in our past which influence our ability to trust others. It is important that we open up with those who love us. It is healthy to share our worries and fears. I've found that love blossoms when we not only share the guest rooms of our lives with those who love us, but our laundry rooms and storage closets as well. When someone shares their personal regrets and past pain with you, know that you are standing on holy ground. Be kind and gentle, where others have been judgmental, you can offer understanding and loyalty. You may have not committed the same mistakes, but given different circumstances, you may not have fared as well as you have. We are all on the same level. We are all beggars in need of God's mercy.
