I'm a big fan of accentuating the positive. There is a beautiful depth behind a person who smiles through tears. You can't expect to have a happy experience with a negative outlook. I'm not saying it is easy and there are definitely situations in which it is simply impossible, but let's resolve to do our very best to put a smile on our face and be an uplifting influence for others no matter our current circumstances. Choose to focus on what's right about your life. Refuse to tell everyone how bad things are. Talk about the good things that are happening. It's difficult to do when you are miserable, but slowly you'll feel a little bit better.
Confession time. Years ago I used to hate Mondays. I dreaded the thought of waking up Monday morning. I don't remember the exact moment it happened, but I remember thinking I needed to change my mindset. I started by focusing on what I liked about Monday, then I talked about those things with excitement. It took a little while, but I came to love Mondays! I honestly get pumped thinking I have a brand new week each Monday. I know it's weird, but it taught m an important lesson. You can train your brain to see the positive, to see the blessings.
