Through many years of mistakes I’ve learned there is a time to teach and there is a time to be quiet and listen.

When someone is vulnerable or emotional, it rarely helps to start teaching them. High emotion is usually a signal that the person needs to be heard and seen.

Wait until long after the emotions have calmed (and you have been asked for advice) to teach and then clothe your teaching in affection and praise.
