I’ve never read where the Lord claims the church’s members or leaders will be anything more than human. I have read, in many places, the Lord telling us we must forgive each other and be patient with our leaders. This implies that the Lord knows we will hurt and annoy one another.
Even with the Lord telling us this is going to happen, there are still times when we (me included) put towering expectations upon the church and it’s members & leaders, both past and present. If we’re not careful we can end up with standards of behavior far beyond what the Lord expects of them (or us).
You might say “I would think that someone who says they’re a Christian would…” or “I would think someone who claims to speak for God should…”, but these statements are usually not backed by the scriptures.
The Lord seems to see everyone’s weaknesses and failings and somehow still knows how to use that person’s strengths to further His work. I can hear him saying (as Michael Wilcox said on Follow Him this week), “Why beholdest the mote in their eye? I know it’s there, but why are 𝒚𝒐𝒖 looking at it?”
