Come Follow Me Thought

A little Come Follow Me thought for the week. The eye of the needle/gate myth was a part of mainstream New Testament scholarship til the mid 1900s, but has since been proven false. The more likely scenario is that the Greek word for camel (kamilon) is close to the word for rope (kamiilon). Could be a translation error.

There’s still an important lesson to be learned here, but it’s not the “camel has to crawl without carrying anything” lesson.

Hugh Nibley: “The disciples marveled greatly at this, for they had never heard of that convenient postern gate, invented by an obliging nineteenth-century minister for the comfort of his well-heeled congregation—the ancient sources knew nothing of that gate, and neither did the baffled apostles.”
